During normal operation of the Facscan, Facsort, FacsCalibur, LSR and LSRII, the pressure inside the test tube (sample pressure) should be relieved when changing test tubes. If your test tubes are popping off the sample injection probe with some force ie. they are under pressure, this abnormal behavior. When the test tube support arm is placed aside a micro-switch activates a pinch valve to relieve the pressure inside the test tube, which should inhibit the test from coming off during sample change.
Areas to check if you have this problem:
  1. Make sure the Bal-seal is not too worn and can hold the test tube up on the SIP while the test tube is not under pressure. See figure1.
  2. Check the test tube pressure relief pinch valve and ensure it is working properly. The pin located between the two pieces of silastic tubing should change positions when when the test tube support arm is placed aside. See figure 2.
  3. If items 1 and 2 are functioning properly, ensure the check valve between MF5 and MF6 (see figure 3) is functioning properly. This item may be changed or removed if needed.
